Mount Maunganui is one of New Zealand's top holiday destinations, boasting glorious beaches, Mt Mauao walking tracks, hot water pools, surfing, fishing, kayaking and sailing.
Add to that a fantastic selection of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants and it is not surprising that during the summer the population increases dramatically.
The Mount Maunganui main beach is directly in front of the Pavilion Beachfront Apartments and is patrolled in the summertime by members of the Bay of Plenty Surf Life Saving Association, with voluntary lifeguard patrols present from October through to March each year.
